Human Rights Protection Program

The goal of the Human Rights Protection block grant is to create effective tools to eliminate social stereotypes, prejudice and to strengthen the judiciary and human rights advocacy, multiculturalism, non-discrimination, principles of legal state, democracy, human rights and freedom by supporting innovative and pilot projects.

                        Projects supported within this priority aim to improve the conditions necessary for the implementation of basic human rights and freedoms in society and strengthen NGO-s operating in this area.

                        Projects include the following areas of support: judiciary performance in human rights observation, European and International Law professional capacity, transparency and anti-corruption, modern trends in the judiciary, public monitoring of the judiciary and public involvement, improvement in public legal awareness.

ADVOCACY AND LEGAL ADVISORY CENTRE

Transparency International Slovakia
Brief Description:
Corruption in the public sector is one of the most debated issues in the Slovak Republic. Our aim is to provide the public with effective means to fight against corrupt practices.

Aims:

  • To establish a Legal Advisory Centre  
  • To encourage people to take the initiative and outroot corrupt practices 
  • To organise public discussions exposing corrupt practices
  • To raise public awareness
  • To provide the public with information on their rights

IMPROVING STANDARDS AND APPLICATION OF POLITICAL RIGHTS

Fair-play Alliance

Brief Description:
The project aims to improve the quality of civil rights in the Slovak Republic and to improve transparency of the legal system.

Aims:

  • To prepare a comprehensive analysis of the current state of the legal system   
  • To publish certain alarming cases
  • To design a CD for schools
  • To design a watchdog website  
  • To take part in a summer festival

The project aims to stregthen parents' and responsible activits' legal awareness regarding children rights and protection. The idea is to uphold the right to family.

Brief Description:
The primary aim of the project is to draw the public attention to civil rights violations in Slovakia and the rest of World.

Aims:

  • To strengthen the position of the “People in Peril” Association as the leading institution promoting the idea of human rights respect
  • To organise seven public movie-screenings and discussions on various human rights-related issues
  • To invite a foreign expert and organise meetings with local politicians, students, and the media

ADVOCACY FOR CIVIL RIGHTS AND LIBERTIES IN SLOVAKIA AND SUPPORT FOR VALUE-BASED SLOVAK FOREIGN POLICY

 Brief Description:
The project aims to monitor the respect for fundamental principles, such as the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties, and democracy.These values should be protected at all costs, and their protection is thus our primary objective.

Aims:

  • To cooperate with the media and raise the awareness of the attempts to impose limits on democracy or the rule of law
  • To monitor the legislative process
  • To use all legal means to prevent civil rights violations and counteract any such attempt
  • To monitor Slovak foreign policy and inform the public if it is not in line with democratic values

LEGAL AID FOR ALIENS ON THE TERRITORY OF SLOVAKIA

The Human Rights League

Brief Description:
The aim of the project is to provide legal aliens on the territory of the Slovak Republic with legal service they are entitled to, and safeguard their human rights.

Aims:

  • To raise the awareness of the need to protect unaccompanied alien minors and provide them with due legal service
  • To provide aliens with legal service if their basic human rights are violated
  • To better inform the aliens on their rights
  • To achieve a change in legislation concerning the right of an alien to prompt examination of the legality of temporary custody
  • To cooperate with the media

LAW FOR (ABSOLUTELY) EVERYONE

Milan Simecka Foundation

 Brief Description:
The project aims to raise the legal awareness among young individuals coming from marginalised Roma communities and those living in social facilities.

Aims:

  • To create methodology of legal education for young Roma individuals
  • To test various methods of informal learning
  • To facilitate training for lectors
  • To disseminate similar projects among various Community Centres in order to assure sustainability of the project

Brief Description:
The project aims to simplify the access of the disadvantaged to legal counseling  and Court representation in cases of Human Rights violations. The project also aims to promote alternative means of conflict-solving – mediation.

Aims:

  • To provide pro bono legal service for disadvantaged individuals in the field of Human  Rights
  • To promote cooperation between the public sector and non-governmental organisations
  • To involve non-governmental organisations in Human Rights- and NGO-related legislation-making-process
  • To raise the awareness among wide public about Human Rights issues  
  • To prepare print and online campaign
