Human Rights Protection Program

The goal of the Human Rights Protection block grant is to create effective tools to eliminate social stereotypes, prejudice and to strengthen the judiciary and human rights advocacy, multiculturalism, non-discrimination, principles of legal state, democracy, human rights and freedom by supporting innovative and pilot projects.

                        Projects supported within this priority aim to strengthen the capacity of the judiciary and state administration and increase citizens’ legal awareness.

                        Projects include the following areas of support: public information campaigns on human rights, encouragement of active civil society participation, legal support and participation for the disadvantaged, improvement of professional skills of all those working in the field of human rights, support for programmes aiming at elimination of prejudices, social stereotypes and xenophobia, human rights education, strengthening the capacities of NGO-s advocating human rights, and many more.

IMPROVEMENT OF LEGAL CAPACITY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION IN SETTLEMENT OF CIVIL DISPUTES

Brief Description:
The project reacts on the current situation in municipal self-governance, especially the need to provide municipal civil servants with new information regarding nouvelle trends in Slovak legal system. The current legislation strengthened their competence in the settlement of civil disputes.

Aims:

  • Improvement of professional skills of municipal civil servants
  • Improvement in public awareness regarding settlement of civil disputes
  • Voluntary (extrajudicial) settlement of civil disputes
  • Lesser workload for municipal courts
  • Successful implementation of new trends in the Slovak legal system

Brief Description:
The primary incentive behind the project is gradual strengthening of professional capacity of judges, prosecutors, judge-nominees who work in the field of human rights.

  • To strengthen legal knowledge of municipal civil servants who act as the focal point between the public and Courts

Brief Description:
The Slovak Republic aims to safeguard the right to freedom and security for all its citizens impartially. Improved security of women should be the main aim of sucessful implementation of the relevant legislation.

Aims:

  • To identify key-factors that have a negative impact on women security during legal processes
  • To draft proposals aiming at the gradual improvement of women’s security
  • To raise the awareness among national and municipal institutions
  • To monitor activities of the police and their treatment of cases of domestic violence

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ANTIDISCRIMINATION ACT AT THE SLOVAK COURTS – PRACTICE AND PERSPECTIVE

The Centre for Civil and Human Rights

Brief Description:
The aim of the project is to encourage a more frequent use of legal action as a means of protection against discrimination, and directly contribute to the law-making process. The primary aim is to contribute to a gradual decline in discriminatory acts.

Aims:

  • To provide litigation in at least two cases of ethnic discrimination
  • To monitor legal decisions and make sure they are in line with the Anti-Discrimination Act
  • To improve the implementation of the Anti-Discrimination Act
  • To improve professional skills of judges, prosecutors, and judge-nominees
